New York City is the largest city in the U.S.A. located on the Eastern seaboard with 2 rivers on each side of Manhattan (Hudson River and The East River).  New York City has a population of over 8.6M (2017) and the metropolitan area’s population is over 20.3M.  New York City consists of 5 boroughs:

  • Manhattan
  • Queens
  • Brooklyn
  • The Bronx
  • Staten Island

New York City does not sleep and is a fast paced City, which gave the inspiration to the phase “In a New York Minute”.  Ten things to do in New York City:

Our trip to New York City in March 2019 was a stop over for 1 ½ days….here’s what we managed to see by walking (we clocked 25,000 steps, 16 km), cabs and subway:

  • Rockefeller Center
  • FAO Schwarz (neat rendition of original store)
  • Radio City Music Hall
  • NBC Studios
  • New York City Library (beautiful building)
  • Grand Central Station
  • Snack at Pret A Manger (Park Ave. & 40th) so delicious
  • The Met (Central Park)
  • Central Park – beautiful walk through Central Park to the Bethesda Fountain up to Strawberry Fields and the Dakota (RIP John Lennon)
  • Horse Carriage Ride along Central Park to Columbus Circle (20 minutes was $65)
  • Snack at Petrossian (7th & 57th) chocolate chip cookie was so delicious
  • Hudson Yards (checked out B8ta store and climbed the Vessel to see the views of the Hudson River)
  • One World Trade Center / Freedom Tower / 911 Memorial – fountain is very moving with all the names of the remembered engraved into the fountain
  • Eataly – dinner at Serra By Birreria…on the 14th floor rooftop patio at Eataly, Serra By Birreria was excellent (amazing food, outstanding service and very neat atmosphere on the rooftop patio)
  • Times Square at night…so much energy

We wish we had more time in NYC….we’ll be back to enjoy NYC soon.

Travel tips New York City (NYC):

  • Fly into any of the airports (LaGaudia-LGA / JFK-JFK / Newark-EWR) LaGaurdia is closest to the City, cab will cost approx. $50
  • Where to stay in New York City (Accommodations) – if you want the best central location suggestion is to stay in mid-town, there’s a wide range of hotels to chose from
  • Restaurants in New York City – the City’s restaurant offering is amazing…we enjoyed our experience at Eataly…so many options to choose from

  • Getting Around New York City – NYC blocks are short…walking is a great way to experience the City and take in the energy…if you feel comfortable NYC Subway is very convenient (buy a Metro Card) look at the Subway map and explore…cabs of course are also convenient however you may get stuck in traffic during peak hours (so walking and the subway can tend to get you around faster).
